Description

Finished version of my month-long gigantic project. And just in time for my county's high school junior/senior art show too! I've decided to leave it "unfinished" because of the expressive qualities that I liked in my original sketch. This paper is probably about as tall as I am and is wider than an average door, so it's pretty big. I apologize for the poor photo quality; I took it with a mere iPad 2. I'll be using a Canon to properly photograph it once I've weighed down the bottom and finished fixative-ing it up, and will upload the final thing once I get the chance. So here's the reference: fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/i/201… I was so excited to start this but once I got to the end I really wished I had used an original reference. Fortunately, I still have enough energy left to do another one of these drawings, and definitely will be using an original photo reference for my next project.

Time: like a month
Tools: extended graphite pencil (graphite pencil taped to the end of a meter-long wooden dowel), charcoal pencils, white gesso, kneaded eraser, chamois
Artist age (this is just to keep track of when I completed each drawing for college submission purposes): 16 years old

In terms of the new title, it is an English version of the Irish word, seanchaí, which means storyteller. </b>I thought this would be a fitting title because quite honestly, this guy looks like he has quite a story to tell. In my mind, I see him as a wise, humorous old man who's only remaining endeavor is to pass on his legacy and/or story to members of younger generations.

Fantastic drawing, I love the wrinkles and his expression is well done. I personally have trouble pulling off shading similar tones and yet showing them contrast as you did with the eyebrows, well done!
